Digitally Scrapbook your Survivor Story

by

I’m an avid scrapbooker. Or at least, I was. Today the word avid isn’t necessarily accurate but neither is the word apathetic.

Over the course of three children, two cancer diagnoses and a leap back into the professional world … my lust for the hobby that filled my Friday nights has dwindled. My free time is spent catching up on laundry, beloved television shows, cleaning up the paperwork clutter a family of five generates, reading magazines for pleasure not profit … or SLEEPING. And, I don’t want to waste my girls nights out doing anything productive anymore, I want to kick back with my friends over cocktails not cropping tools.

Survivor_1.jpgRecently I got my hands on Memory Mixer “digital scrapbooking made easy” software. Holy cow, I’ve been living in the dark ages. Check out this quick layout I did using my Mac and their software:

The only problem I’m having is that there is so much included I haven’t internalized all my options!

The software is sooooo easy to use. It’s hard to believe I had such a barrier to going digital! I thought i’d miss the textures and lumpy/bumpiness of this but the convenience of this will outweigh any nostalgia I feel towards my old habit.

I easily printed my page to a .pdf format that I could share them easily when I finished. I’m working out the logistics of printing a hard copy … but I can also print my pages using the Memory Mixer online store. Oh, and I can print out other ‘photo’ products like cards and calendars, too. I’ll probably poke around in their photo gallery, maybe upload this page to share with other survivors. I mean, I’m psyched. They have an online tutorial — fantastic.

Now … I don’t need to tell you why I think you should scrapbook, do I? Alright, here’s a link to an article I wrote for Garden and Hearth on Five Great Reasons to Scrapbook.

But today I’m telling you to go digital. If you’re looking for something to do with all those old supplies that are now irrelevant, use them for your child’s class projects or to make cards. Check out this week of cards starting with this one that Kari at All Paper Arts put up not too long ago.

If you’re here because you are an avid scrapbooker … 451 Press is looking for a writer for their site (Scr)apropos!
