I was saddened by this news too Karen. I also love Dirty Dancing! It also hit home for me in another way. My father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last April at only 59 years old. They didnt find it until he had symtoms that revealed the tumor was blocking stuff at the end of his stomach and he had a whipple procedure which is specific to that type of cancer. He opted to not undergo chemo which I am supporting as it is his personal choice. The docs gave him 8-12 months to live without treatment.
It is so important to find cancer early which is part of why pancreatic cancer is so deadly. It is good that they found Swayze's early. You and I both know early detection is key.

Hello

I am contacting you as a fellow breast cancer survivor, hoping you can help make all post-mastectomy women’s lives more comfortable.

Following my own mastectomy I was completely frustrated by the total lack of comfortable, functionable clothing that fit my needs as a breast cancer survivor. Any woman who has had a mastectomy soon realizes that all sense of fashionable comfort is gone forever. Either you’re wearing “the prosthesis” and are physically uncomfortable or you’re not wearing “the prosthesis” and are uncomfortable with your appearance.

My name is Anja Mullins, founder and CEO of Ann Jacqueline Design. I had an idea for a simple, attractive, one-piece garment that would eliminate the need to wear a post-mastectomy prosthesis.

Today my company, Ann Jacqueline Design, has developed and is marketing an innovative prosthesis free fashion line specifically for women who have had a single or double mastectomy. Post mastectomy women no longer need to contend with the discomfort of wearing a bulky, heavy prosthesis that shifts within the pocket of the bra. Women may now choose to wear a lightweight, pull-over, one piece prosthesis free, fashionable garment that can be worn in any social setting.

More than 200,000 women in the U.S. are stricken with breast cancer each year and there are more than 2,000,000 breast cancer survivors in the United States alone. My company is tailored to the specific needs of these women.

Please contact me at 619.729.4355 or visit www.annjacquelinedesign.com or www.ajdcancer.com for more information.

Sincerely,

Anja Mullins

Karen,

I LOVE that show! I am addicted! I saw that episode with Hersheys to make that dress and thought it was awesome that they were going to do an auction with proceeds to the YSC.

Go Project Runway! :)

I realize this post is not current but since you asked for information about what women have found to help control night sweats I wanted to tell what I found.
I started taking this product to improve my nutrition and was surprised when my night sweats went away in about a week.
It's not a drug, that's really important to me. I tried many herbal remedies but never found much if any relief.
Anyway this product worked for me.

My God! Why the argument at all - everything starts somewhere and until we know different DCIS Stage 0 is where the other cancers come from. Thank goodness we were caught as early as we were. That being said, I too had bi-lateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction. My FATHER died of breast cancer in 2001 - thanks Dad for putting the wisper in my ear to do something early!!!

I believe I will now live a full life without invasive cancer of the BREAST, however I still must listen to the other wispers in the family and there are other potential cancers awaiting me - I hope, if they have to develop in my body - they too are discovered as baby cancers. I never want to have my children watch me die the way my father did...

I agree on getting a baseline mammogram at 35! The breast cancers that are caught in women 35-40 while more rare are also more lethal. Also, insurance companies are required to cover the mammogram at 100% starting at age 35--so why not be on the safe side. Ladies--go and get your mammogram! Even if you don't have a family history. The life you save may be your own.
